Your child joins a live Zoom or Google Meet call with one of us — you'll get the link by email once the session is confirmed. The first few minutes are spent finding out what's actually going on: the worksheet that's due, the test that came back badly, the chapter that stopped making sense.
Then we work through it together. Not us lecturing at a slideshow: your student does the problems, we watch where it goes wrong, and we fix the thing causing it rather than just supplying the answer. The last few minutes we take one problem and have them explain it back to us, because that's the only reliable way to know it stuck.
$40 per session. That's the same for every subject, either tutor, and whether it's a panic session the night before a test or a steady weekly thing.
You pay at the end of the lesson by Apple Pay, Zelle or Venmo — never before. The first 15-minute demo costs nothing, so you can meet us before any money changes hands.
Live on Zoom or Google Meet — whichever your family already uses. We send the link by email when we confirm the booking, and your child just clicks it at the start time.
Google Meet needs no download and runs in any browser, which is usually the easier option for younger students. Everything is live and one-on-one; nothing is pre-recorded and nothing is automated.
That's usually why people call, and it's fine. Being behind in math almost always means something two or three chapters back never landed, and the current chapter is built on top of it. We'd rather go back and fix that than push forward and have the same thing happen again in a month.
It does mean progress feels slow for the first couple of sessions. We'll tell you honestly if we think the gap is bigger than what tutoring can close.
A laptop or tablet that can run Zoom or Google Meet, somewhere reasonably quiet, and — this is the important one — the actual materials. The homework, the study guide, the graded test with the red marks on it. A graded test is the single most useful thing you can bring, because it shows us exactly where things break.
Paper and pencil, not just the screen. We ask students to work problems by hand where we can see them.
Text the tutor you booked as early as you can and we'll move it. Since nothing is paid up front, a cancelled session simply doesn't get charged — there's no credit to lose and no package to burn through.
For the free demo, please do — it's partly so you can size us up. For regular sessions, most students work better without a parent watching, especially if they're embarrassed about being behind. We'd suggest staying within earshot for the first one, then stepping out.
Honest answer: it depends on whether the problem is a specific gap or a general habit. A single confusing topic can turn around in one or two sessions. A student who's been lost since the start of the unit usually takes three or four before the grade moves.
What tends to change first isn't the grade — it's that homework stops being a fight at home.
